sea turtles
this is a really sad yet lovely sea turtle story. did you know that sea turtles return to the exact same spot on the beach year after year to lay their eggs? it’s true. i grew up on the beach and it is a really amazing experience to head there late at night to watch big momma turtles push themselves out of the water toward the dunes, dig a big hole, climb into it, lay eggs, climb out, cover the hole, and then crawl back to the shore—it all takes about 1-2 hours and it’s so beautiful. in the hatching season, eveyone who lives along the beach has to keep their lights out at night because when the baby turtles climb out they crawl toward the light of the moon (over the ocean) and if you dont keep your shades drawn, they walk towards the street! it is absolutely adorable to watch them wiggle toward the ocean, they are so tiny and it’s incredible! and if they are having trouble, you can give them a little push. sometimes i really miss florida.
